Some of these houses are by the sea or within 1 km of a beach, mostly in the southwest of the island. Days there are easy: the beach in the morning, shade at lunchtime, the pool in the afternoon. The others are in the countryside, with gardens, room to play and quiet evenings, though the beach is a drive away. The Near the beach filter above the listings shows only houses within 1 km of a beach, and our seaside villas collection gathers every house close to the sea, with or without children's equipment.

Not every house has a pool fence or a pool alarm, and we have not yet recorded this for every property. So we would rather not promise anything here that we have not checked. Tell us how old your children are and whether they can swim, and we will ask the owners and name the houses where the pool is secured. Where there is no fence, we will tell you that too, before you book.

The distance from Palma airport is shown on each house's page where provided, and with small children it is worth a look: after a flight, a short transfer is often worth more than a larger garden. Mallorca is an easy island for a family holiday. The flight from the UK is short, and many beaches shelve gently into the sea, such as the Bay of Alcúdia with Playa de Muro and the bay at Santa Ponsa. Popular days out with children include the vintage train from Palma to Sóller, the Coves del Drac caves near Porto Cristo and the Palma Aquarium.
